Tidy and clean windows give a home an attractive look and feel.
uPVC windows actually need little maintenance. They do not require weatherproofing or re-painting. Keeping them clean and maintained is quite simple really.
Consider buying a uPVC purpose designed cleaning product.
If you can’t find it at your local hardware store then use warm soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge without a bleaching detergent for cleaning. Also remember to double check recommendations from the manufacturer in case there are an specif things you need to be aware of.
Avoid using the following items on the glass:
- Too much pressure while removing a stubborn stains
- White and methylated spirits
- Nail varnish remover and scouring pads
Start by opening the window and using an old paintbrush remove dirt, dust, and cobwebs.
Use a vacuum cleaner hose to clear everything you couldn’t brush away. Then using the cleaning liquid of your choice in combination with a soft white cloth to wipe the window frames down, especially in the edges where the window lays inside the outer casing. Make sure the cleaning cloth is soft. Don’t use anything hard. Imagine you are cleaning a non-stick frying pan.
Don’t use coloured cleaning cloths! This will avoid the chance of the dye coming off onto the window. For stubborn stains use a stronger grade solvent uPVC cleaner. But avoid using it on silicone seal to prevent lifting it away.
Clean the glass at least monthly.
Start the glass cleaning process by rubbing it down with a damp cloth to get rid of excess dirt. You can then use either an e-cloth or the traditional glass cleaning cloth. E-cloths, or more commonly know as microfiber cloths, are the best.
Next use a proper window cleaning product purchased from the store. Don’t just use water or soap. Use a proper window cleaner. You want to keep you investment in tact. Double glazed window repairs are not cheap if something is damaged!
